CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. DUNGARVAN WINS FENDALTUN. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Again tho weather treated the Canterbury Jockey Club unkindly for the second day of the club’s metropolitan meeting at Riccarton yesterday. The morning broke fine, but during the early part of the forenoon drizzling rain set in, and this continued until the opening of the programme. There was then a break of fine but overcast weather and the afternoon passed off without the discomfort of Cup day. Th« attendance was seriously affected by the unpromising outlook during the morning, and the numbers were below those of last year for Derby Day. The track, which had dried up considerably over the week-end, was firmer than on the first day, and later in the afternoon conditions underfoot were almost back to normal. Speculation was again satisfactory, the sum of £80,548 10s (win £16,543, place £14,005 10s) being handled, as against £28,907 10s (win £12,695, place £16,212 10s) on Derby Day last year. Concluding results : —• Criterion Handicap, of £400; seven furlongs.—s (5) Pakanui (Gouisbro) 1, 1 (1) Matoiu 2,2 (2) Ponty 3. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.27 1-5.
