CANTERBURY PARK RACES. NEW ZEALANDERS IN ACTION. SYDNEY, September 5. At the Canterbury Park races, Billy Boy, who was last year regarded as one of the most promising staying two-year-olds, but whose recent form has been rather unsatisfactory, rehabilitated himself by scoring handsomely in the Guineas and is now entitled to consideration as a contender for the Derby. Custos ran ungenerously throughout and repeatedly tried to get off the course. Cuddle and Archne gave magnificent performances in the Stakes, and although the latter won, the honours were possibly with Cuddle, who hesitated at the start and made up several lengths in the comparatively short straight. Arachne jumped out first and led all the way. Stretto, having his first run in Sydney, showed considerable pace. Cyrillian also had her first run in Sydney and performed creditably in running second in the Park Stakes. The New Zealand-bred Stalin jumped out first from the inside position, Cyrillian being ridden hard from the extreme outside to join him, the pair fighting out a great finish. In the third division of the Park Stakes, the useful three-year-old filly Matchless fell and sustained injuries necessitating her destruction. Her rider, Harper, broke a collarbone and was carried from the course suffering from concussion. When Matchless fell, the jockey, Wallace, was thrown from another horse and taken to the casualty room suffering from shock. The Sydney rider, A. R. Ellis, who won the Flying Handicap on Tliebez, was suspended for a month for interference with Siren, who was unplaced. Linklet and Royal Helena were unplaced in the second division of the Park Stakes and Kow Tow was unplaced in thejthird division. Omarere and Padishalr were unplaced in the Flying Handicap. Golden Treasure was second in the September Handicap, and Golden Gate and Distinguished were unplaced in the Ashbury Handicap. Results:—

Park Stakes, of 150 sovs; six furlongs—Stalin (N.Z.) 7.7 (W. Cook) 1, Cyrillian (N.Z.) 8.2 (M. McCarten) 2, Lavage 9.0 (S. Davidson) 3. Won by half a length; a length between second and third. Time, 1.14. Canterbury Stakes, of 500 sovs; weight-for-age; six furlongs—Arachne 8.11 (W. Cook) 1, Cuddle (N.Z.) 8.11 (M. McCarten) 2, Some Boy 7.13 (Donkin) 3. The Memsie Stakes at Caulfield provided a thrilling struggle between Charles Fox and Valiant Chief. The latter was cut out shortly after the start, but finished gallantly. Marabou showed a return to form by finishing ■at a great gait after being last entering the straight. It is announced that Charles Fox will start in the Epsom Handicap. Conandale, who has admirers as a Melbourne Cup candidate, put up a splendid performance to win the Warriston Handicap, for three-year-olds, despite a somewhat difficult passage. Results:— Warriston Handicap, of 500 sovs; one mile.—Conandale (N. Percival) 1, Boongarry and Ulawarra (dead heat) 2. There were 14 starters. Won by a. length. Time, 1.395.
