PUBLIC NOTICES. for the purpose of making bettei provision for the improvement of the Ashburton and Hinds Rivers and tributaries thereto and for the protection of certain lands in the Ashburton County and the lands contiguous thereto. OTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN) pursuant to the provisions of the standing orders of the General Assembly of New Zealand relating to Local Bills that application will be made to the General Assembly in Parliament assembled at the present Session on behalf of the Chairman, Councillors and Inhabitants of the County of Ashburton, for leave to introduce a Local Bill to be called “The Ashburton County River District Act, 1936. The objects of the proposed Bill are:— (a) To constitute a special River District to be called The Ashburton County River District. (b) To make better provision for the constitution of a Board tor the said District to be called “The Ashburton County River Board” for the purposes of the better carrying out of improvements to tiro Ashburton and Hinds rivers and tributaries thereto, and for the construction of works to safeguard the Borough of Ashburton, the County of Ashburton and the township of Tinwald from flood, and to vest exclusively in the Board all powers and authorities in connection with River protection works in the district, to create separate sub-divisions in addition to those contemplated by the River Boards Act 1908, to provide for election of members of the Board by local authorities in the district, to abolish the Wakanui River Board and to vest all property and rights of such Board in the Ashburton Countv River Board and to transfer to, and impose upon it all contracts, obligations and liabilities of the Wakanui River Board. A copy of the said Bill has been deposited in the'Magistrate’s Court, Ashburton, and also a t the offices of the Ash burton County Council, Baring Square, Ashburton, and such copies are open to public inspection during office hours for a period of three complete weeks.
