THE ST. STEPHEN’S CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The St. Stephen’s Tennis dub held' its annual meeting last evening, the president (the Ven. Archdeacon A. J. Petrie) presiding. The annual report stated that the season was successful, but was marred somewhat by inclement weather. The season opened with a membership of 49 and closed with 50. There were 19 new members and 18 resignations. The annual ball was again successful. Several fine trophies were, purchased. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £3 16s 2d. The following officers were elected: — Patron, Mr W. C. J. Osman; president, the Ven. Archdeacon A. J. Petrie; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Hosken, C. Jaine, A. E'. Clarke, and Dr. N. E. H. Fulton; honorary secretary, Mr R. J. Griffin; honorary treasurer, Miss V. Smith; captain, Mr K. Hepburn; vice-captain, Miss I. Clarke; committee, Misses N. Rickard, W. Eden, and E. Eden, Messrs P. Baker, R. W. Griffin, F. Smith, and C. Childs; auditor, Mr W. H. Amos. The senior and junior cups were made perpetual trophies. It was decided to open the season on September 12. UNITED STATES TITLES. NEW YORK, August 31. In the United States championships at Brookline, W. L. Allison and J. H. van Ryn to-day lost their national doubles title, being beaten 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 by J. D. Budge and C. G. Mako, the Davis Cup doubles pair having little trouble in overwhelming the veteran combination. The defending women’s titleholders, Miss H. Jacobs and Mrs S. Fabyan, defeated Miss Carolin Babcock and Mrs J. H. Van Ryn, 9-7, 2-6, 6-4.
