FRUIT AND PRODUCE. THE ASHBURTON MARKET. Cauliflowers have become cheaper on tli© Ashburton fruit anti produce market. Apples have also shown an easing tendency with the impending arrival of spring produce. Leeks are reduced in price, and red heather and marrows have disappeared from the market. Seed for for spring sowing is now available at cheap rates, and strawberry plants are also obtainable. Prices are:— Strawberry Plants—ls 6d. a dozen. Potatoes, Seed (Early)—l£d and 2d. Potatoes—2s 6d to 3s a sugar-bag. Bacon—lOd and lid a lb. Wheat—Seconds, 12s to 13s a sack. Clover Seed—6d a lb. Honey—6£d to 7d a lb Onions—ld a pound. Walnuts—6d a lb. DUNEDIN, August 21. Lack of interest in the milling wheat market continues, and few sales are being made to millers. The fowl wheat market remains firm for shipment. The ruling quotation is 4s 9d, sacks extra, with up to 5s a bushel, ex store for small lots. The oat market continues firm with merchants now asking higher prices. Quotations vary from 3s 4d : to 3s 6d, f.0.b., s.i., for A’s. The market for B Cartons is firmer and these have been sold during the week at 3s f.o.b., s.i. ' Best quality chaff is worth £4 10s to £4 15s, sacks extra, ex truck. Most of the North Island ports have purchased, a fair quantity of potatoes from Bluff, Dunedin and Canterbury, and these supplies are sufficient to meet northern requirements for a while. Ereshly picked lines of Arran Chiefs are worth £4 10s a ton, with King Edwards ruling round about £5 a ton. Practically all seed markets remain firm. BRITISH WHEAT MARKETS. Prices 2d and 2|d better than those at the 1935 winter sale, and Id to l£d better than for the same quality at the last summer sales, vde're procured at the 1936 clutching sale at Napier this afternoon. Competition was keen from a fully representative bench of buyers. England, Canada, America, and Japan were the most eager buyers, seeking coarse wool for carpet manufacture. The highest price \Vas 10§d, paid for clean, well-sorted super wool. Practically 100 per cent, clearance was made of the total offering of 1989 bales. Good to super wool fetched to medium to 9d, and low quality up to Bd. The offering included a small quantity of fleece wool, which fetched up to lOd. The keen competition made it evident
