FLOWERS VEGETABLES. CARNATION, “Giant Double Chabaud” (Clove Scented). Finest Mixed, including the following : Crimson, brilliant scarlet, terra cotto, carmine, pale pink, deep rose, ruby purple, salmon pink, snow white I and deep yellow. These carnations should prove unusually attractive for market growers, both as cut flowers and as a pot plant. They give abundance of flowers of splendid form. If the seed is sown in July they can be planted out in the open in November and will commence to flower in January, and continue throughout the season. _ They are perfectly hardy, and if in a fairly sheltered spot will stand through the winter. 1/- per pkt HOLLYHOCK, IMPERATOR. Double-Crested', Begonia Flowered. 'A striking new departure has been made in this splendid new Hollyhock. Rising to a stately height it bears flowers to inches across, consisting of wide outer petals, elegantly frilled and deeply fringed, in the centre of which appears a double rosette about 2 inches across, the -whole suggesting a crested Begonia on a giant scale. The colourings include various tints of great beauty, such as cerise-salmon -with centre of rose, reflecting rose, delicate pink, with centre of rose, flushed yellow, and numerous other wonderful combinations. 2/- per pkt. BURPEE’S PANSY. Oregon Giants. Marvellous pansies of extreme size, grown for us by the originator. This strain differs from others in that the flowers are somewhat more flattened, hut this characteristic adds considerably to the size of the blooms, which if well grown, measure 4 inches across. The originator exhibited such blooms at the Oregon Flower Show in 1928. A graceful wave adds beauty to the flowers that excel other pansies in size, and embrace as fine a colour range. 2/- per packet. This variety has dark red flesh, and free from the earthy taste that spoils some varieties. This very fine stock is the result of long endeavours of the grower to produce a perfect type and is quite distinct from the stocks usually offered under this name. Once grown —always grown. 6dl per packet. Carrots—“ The Ideal. It is quite coreless, and has tender, almost transparent flesh of rich colour. This is a new carrot of French origin which we have pleasure in offering, as we believe it to be one of the finest liigh-class varieties where quality is the main consideration. Although it has fine leaves, “The Ideal Carrot’’ is a quick and vigorous grower, and will be found to be the ideal carrot either for householder or for the market gardener who wishes to supply products of extra good quality. 6df pkt. Mr. S., of New Plymouth, writes: — “Your Ideal Carrot is all you say about it, and 1 am strongly recommending it to my friends.” Burpee’s Tail 1 , Goldeir, SelfBlanching Celery. This is a new, tall strain, which differs from the ordinary self blanching. The foliage is also quite distinct, and lias been bred for disease-resistance. It is an extra early variety, which should be carefully tested by celerygrowers for the market. 1/- per pkt. Swedish Giant Cabbage. A new and marvellous production, known in Europe as the Central or 1001 b cabbage. A most rapid grower and great blight and drought resister. Grows enormous heads, very solid and compact, and as hard as a cannon hall, frequently measuring 24 inches across; lias very few outer leaves. Quality unsurpassed for delicacy of flavour, leaves are fine grained, tender and crisp. The most handsome and uniform cabbage ever grown. Specimens grown in Sweden weighed over 60ibs whilst in Australia many growers report weights from 201 bto 501 b each. They also praise in glowing terms its edible qualities, being far superior to any other cabbage grown in this country. 1/- per pkt. 4/- per oz, oz lots only. Brussels Sprouts, Eversham Special This stock has been specially re-se-lected for years. It is of medium height, very early, and the stem is always packed with large, solid sprouts. 6d per pkt. 1/9 oz.
