STORM IN AUCKLAND.

SHIPPING DELAYED. .Per Press Assoeiation.) AUCKLAND, August 21. Beginning at mid-day and increasing in severity as the afternoon advanced, a severe rainstorm from the north-east swept Auckland. Overseas vessels delayed included the inter-colonial steamer Mamma, the Federal Line steamer Northumberland, and the tramp steamer Dalcross. The Marama was to have sailed for Sydney at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, but rain caused her departure to be postponed, first until 5 p.m, and then until 8 o’clock. Toward evening, when the rain had set in to a steady downpour, cargo work was abandoned for the night and the vessel’s departure was again postponed until 1 o’clock to-morrow. The Northumberland was to have sailed for London, but the rain prevented any cargo being loaded after mid-day, and her departure had also to be postponed until to-morrow.
