With a programme embracing musical talent from the five States of the Commonwealth and from New Zealand, the fourth annual City of Sydney Eisteddfod was officially opened by Sir Samuel Walder. . In the mezzo soprano section Miss Eileen Courtenay, of Wellington, was placed equal second with Miss 1 bSSY Ryan, of Sydney, each scoring 82 points. The winner, Miss Mary Winterbottom, of Sydney, was awarded 84 Competitors from New Zealand weie prominent at the dancing events last night, among results were the iollow-
ing. ’ , ■ , - Demi-Character Solo Dance, lo years and over: Shona Bennets (Wellington) 88 points 1; Marjorie Penman (Hilhirnie, Wellington) 86 points 2. “Character or National Solo- Dance, lo years and over: Shona Bennets, 93 points 1; Andrea Swane (Sydney) .11 points 2. Marjorie Penman and Maureen Harvey (Sydney) 90 points tied for third. CLASSICAL SOLO DANCE. (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Sydney Eisteddfod was continued yesterday. In classical solo dancing, 15 years and over, Miss Olive Freeman (Sydney), 89 points, was first and Miss Marjorie Penman (Wellington) 88 points, was second.
