ITALY ACCEPTS PROPOSAL.

NOTE HANDED TO FRANCE. CONTACT WITH OTHER STATES. (United Press Association —Copyright/ (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) ROMJ3, August 21. The Foreign Minister (Count Ciano) intimated to the French Ambassador (M. de Chambrun), Italy’s acceptance of the French proposals for non-inter-vention in Spain, handing the Ambassador a Note undertaking to prevent direct or indirect exportation or reexportation to Spain of arms, munitions, war material, aeroplanes and. warships, applying the embargo to current contract. She will also keep contact with other interested States for reciprocal communications of all measures implementing such declaration. Italy will give effect to the declaration when the French, British, Portuguese, German and Russian Government adheres thereto. The Note adds, regarding the French reference to “indirect” intervention, that France does not specify the precise meanling, hut Italy interpreted the suggestion as rendering it inadmissible lor adherents to the agreement to permit public subscriptions or enlistment of volunteers for either side!. The Note further says that as other important European States produce arms besides those to which the French proposal refers, Italy regards it essential that such powers also accept nonintervention. EFFORT AT CONCILIATION. FRENCH OPINION OF NOTE. (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m. LONDON, August 21. The Rome correspondent says that the French residents there interpret the Italian Note as a .great effort at conciliation on Italy’s part, as she replied without awaiting the French answer to various objections and points left outstanding from M. de' Chambrun’s previous conference with Count Ciano on Wednesday.
