Modifications of the Factoiies Amendment Act, 1936, made by order-in-council on August 12 and notified in the Gazette dated August 13, affect Sunday and holiday employment in four industries, namely, coal gas works, dairy factories (including creameries), electric power generating and transforming factories in country districts where only one worker is employed, and in morning daily newspaper factories. In the case of gas works, dairy factories, and powed stations, it is now provided that the workers employed on holidays or Sundays shall be paid in addition to their ordinary rate of pay not less than onehalf of their ordinary rate of pay for the time, worked on such holidays or Sundays. It is provided that in the case of morning daily newspapers the requirements of Sections 14 and 15 of the Act ho modified as follows: “So far as employment of night workers is concerned, the, term ‘holiday’ shall mean the period from noon of the day preceding the holiday until noon on the day of the holiday, and the term ‘Sunday’ shall mean the period from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday.
