BASKETBALL.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. DECISIONS OF THE EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Ashburton Basketball Association met last evening, the president (Mr S. G. Macfarlane) presiding. Coi'respondence about the Dominion tournament at Christchurch on August 25 was received from the New Zealand Association. Permission was granted to the Tinwald Club to play at Temuka on September 12, and the County Schools’ Association was granted the use of the courts for to-morrow. The resignation of Miss V. Townsend, as delegate from the High School, on the executive was accepted with regret and the secretary instructed to write a letter of appreciation of her past services to Miss Townsend. To complete the competitions, it was decided that Technical Old Girls A play St. Stephen’s (seniors), and the juniors

play according to the draw arranged. The third grade competition was declared closed and Allenton the winners, with St. Stephen’s and Technical A (equal) second. It was stated that on September 5 the senior seven-a-side tournament would be played, and an exhibition game of old style basketball given by selected teams suitably attired. The junior and third grade seven-a-side tournament would be played on September 12. It was decided, to form a committee from all clubs to arrange for the annual dance and presentation of prizes.

Draw for Saturday. The basketball draw for Saturday is as follows: Senior—2.ls: Technical Old Girls A v. St. Stephen’s (Mr Macfarlano). Junior—2.ls: Hinds v. Technical A (Mrs Cowan). 3 o’clock: Allenton v. Hampstead Old Girls (Miss Doak); St. Andrew’s v. Winchmore (Miss Meredith) ; St. Stephen’s A v. High School A (Miss McTigue). 4 o’clock: Technical A v. Technical B {if necessary). 4 o’clock—Representative practice. There will be no games on August 29 owing to the Dominion tournament in Christchurch. The season will conclude on September 12 with the second and. third grade seven-a-side. Entries for each of these close a week beforehand.
