MAN INJURED BY A CAR.

MOTORIST FAILED TO STOP. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 18Found lying on the corner of the Portage and Great South Roads early this morning, John McDonald, aged 37, a labourer, of New Lynn, was taken to the' Auckland Hospital in an ambulance, suffering from concussion and an injured back and right hip. McDonald had injured a thumb while working in a phosphate factory at Otahuhu shortly after midnight and was on his was to hospital on a motor-cycle for treatment when he collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction. The di’iver did not stop, and the injured man, who had been rendered unconscious, was found by another motor-cyclist about an hour later. His condition is not now regarded as sel’ious. FALL FROM A HORSE. As a result of a fall fi-om a horse late yestei’day afternoon, Philip Wells, aged 17, of O'verdale, Rakaia, sustained a fractured ankle. He was admitted to the_ Ashburton Public Hospital and it was reported to-day that liis coixdition is satisfactory. A VICTIM OF DEPRESSION. ' WELLINGTON, This Day. At the inquest on Henry Ward, aged 65, who was found dead at Paraparamu, the coroner (Mr Gilbertson) found that deceased took his life by hanging on August 9, when in a depressed xnental condition. Evidence was given that Ward liad been worrying about a bond into which he had entered.
