PREMIER RETIRING.
MR COLLIER IN ILL-HEALTH. (United Press Association—Copyright.) PERTH, August 18. Mr Phillip Collier, Premier of Western Australia, has announced his resignation from the Premiership because of impaired health. Mr Collier was born in April, 1873, After receiving his education at public schools in Victoria, he went to the Western Australian gold fields in 1904. and a year later he was elected to the State’s Legislative Assembly as member. for Boulder. He was appointed to the Cabinet in 1911, with the portfolios of Mines and) Railways. From 1914 to 1916 he Was Minister for Mings Water Supplies. (He was leader of the Labour Opposition from 1917 to 1924 and, when his party was returned to power in 1924, he became Premier and Minister for Forests. The Government was defeated in the election of 1930, and Mr Collier again became leader of the Opposition, but. the Labour party won the election of 1933, and since May of that year he has been Premier, Treasurer, and Minister for Forests.
