LIFE IMPRISONMENT.
CONSPIRACY TO KIDNAP. {United Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 9 a.m. NEW YORK, July 27. Alvin Karpis, who pleaded guilty at St. Paul to conspiracy in the kidnapping of William Hamm and E. G. Bremer, and a confederate, Charles Fitzgerald, was sentenced, to life imprisonment. The judge, in pronouncing the sentence, said that kidnapping was one crime that the American people would not tolerate.
Ivarpis, whom the Department of Justice had searched for for three years, was captured on May 1 by a squad of G men, led personally by Mr J. Edgar Hoover. Not a single shot was exchanged in making the niicst. Karpis was wjanted on charges oi kidnapping Hamm and Bremer. A gangster named Fred Hunter, who was wanted on charges of bank robbery, and an unidentified woman, were captured with him.
