FATAL NEGLIGENCE. YOUNG MAN CONVICTED. PALMERSTON N., July 28. William Richard Paul, aged 21, a factory hand, was found guilty of negligently driving a motor-cycle, thereby causing the death of Irene Merle Campbell, aged 16, near Awalniri, early in the morning of April 17.

The girl, her two sisters, and a young man were walking home from a dance when Paul, with two pillion passengers, ran into them from the rear, killing Merle Campbell instantaneously. Paul and one passenger were unconscious in hospital for many days.
