“BIG POPULATION NEEDED.” ORDERED IMMIGRATION SCHEME (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 16. Interest in planned migration was revived, at a meeting of representatives of public organisations this morning, when it was decided to take active steps to formulate a definite policy and enlist public support and sympathy, with a view to developing a scheme of ordered immigration, in co-operation with Britain. The importance of full utilisation ot tihe Dominion’s resources, and the need of a big population for defence purposes, were emphasised. In the discussion, there were speakers on behalf of Chambers of Commerce, the Salvation. Army, the Overseas League, the Young Men’s Christian, Association, the Young Women s Christian Association, and the Returned Soldiers’ Association, among other bodies. A committee was set up to arrange further meetings and draft a- policy.
