Mr W. H. Mulholland’s election as president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was referred to at a meeting of the Mid-Canterbury executive of the union yesterday. It was decided to congratulate Mr Mulliolland on his appointment.

Miss E. G. Lawrv, who left for England in November, 1934, returned to Christchurch on Thursday and is at home with ‘the Rev. and Mrs A. C. La.wry, of St. Albans. After teaching and studying for a year in London, Miss Lawry spent six months touring extensively in Great Britain and lieland and oil the Continent. She crossed the Atlantic to U.S.A., homeward bound, on the maiden voyage of the “Queen Mary,” travelling via Canada to Vancouer and San Francisco. On the “Monterey” she voyaged to Auckland via Honolulu, Samoa and Suva.

The following appointments were approved at a. meeting of the 'Canterbury Education Board yesterday morning:—Ashburton East: Miss K. W. Hewson; Methven District High School: Miss J. M. O’Connor. The following resignations were accepted : Ashburton East: Miss A. I. Litton (infant mistress); Fairton: Mr O. C. Watkins (head) ; Leeston: Miss D. 1. Steinmetz (Rakaia); Selwyn: Mr J. D. L. Robb (sole) (Ashburton East). Subject to the senior inspector’s favourable recommendation, it was resolved to approve of application for exchange for Hinds from Miss E. Bell, infant mistress (Australia).
