THE SESSION

RESUMPTION ON TUESDAY. PROPOSED LEGISLATION, j ''Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, July 17. The Government’s plans for the legislation to he placed before Parliament immediately, after its resumption on Tuesday after the midwinter recess of five weeks are practically complete. Although several Ministers have been absent from Wellington, Cabinet meet-

ings have been held daily this week, and there will be a further meeting tomorrow. According to the Prime Minister- (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) satisfactory progress has been made with the drafting of the new policy measures and no delays are anticipated when the House of Representatives meets. .

A caucus .of the Government party would be held on Monday morning, Mr Savage said, when details of the new legislation would be explained to members, who would also be given an outline of the general policy to be disclosed in the Budget. The Prime Minister repeated that the Finance Bill providing for the restoration of all wage and salary cuts would be the first business to receive the attention of the House. It would probably be followed by a Bill dealing with the readjustment of mortgages on the basis of the guaranteed price for dairy products. It was the aim of the Government to have the Budget presented as soon as possible, but no definite date had yet been fixed. Other measures which would probably receive early attention were two Bills to be handled by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan), one setting up a judicial tribunal to control and regulate commodity prices and the other providing for the encouragement and development of industries. The Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, which was left uncompleted wliep the House adjourned last month, would also have to be put through its iemaining stages. “There will be plenty to occupy the time and attention of members,” Mr Savage added, “and they will not be asked to concern themselves with unimportant trifles.’’
