{From Our Own Correspondents.) WAKANUI. ‘ THE FARMERS’ UNION. The monthly meeting of the Wakanui ' branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Wakanui Hall on Saturday evening. Mr D. Doak (vice-president) presided over a very large attendance. Messrs F. Frampton, J. Moore and IP. Rickard were appointed delegates to the Mid-Canterbury Executive. The meeting congratulated Mr Frampton on his election as chairman , of the Ashburton County Council. Mr R. J. Martin, of Seafield, gave an instructive and practical demonstration of thepoints of the Oorriedale sheep, having brought with him for the purpose, a fine specimen‘of a two-tooth Stud ram. He answered a. number of questions, and on the motion of' Mr H. Brown a very hearty vote of thanks was conveyed to him for his able and instructive address. Mr Martin was also heartily congratulated on gaining first prize in the ewe hogget competition. i At the close supper was handed round‘ and a social half—hour was_spent. ‘

Farming Conwitions. " The weather has been fine lately with hard frosts and fine days, and the bulk of the wheat has been sown. Stock rs looking particularly well, and there IS an abundance of feed. The Rainfall During May. Rain fell on eight days in May, the heaviest fall being on the 2nd, when 23 points fell. The total for the month was 106 points. ' l The annual meeting of the Seafield‘ branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held, when the following officers were electedz—Qhai-rman, Mr F. Johnson; vice-president, Mr R. J. Martln; secretary, Mr M. Naismith.

LAURISTON. SOCIAL CLUB DANCE. The damce «held under the auspices of the Lauriston Social Club was well attended. Competitions resulted. as follow :~Miss B. Maidens 1, Mrs W. E. Smith 2; Mr S. H. Ashworth 1, Mr J. Crozier (R-okeby) 2. ' RUAPUNA. THE SCHOOL J ÜBILEE. A meeting, of the executive of the Jubilee Celebrations Committee of the Ruapuna School was held, when a programme for the anniversary to be held next Easter was drawn up. It was decided to have a special church service on the Sunday; roll call at 10 a.m. on Monday) a banquet at midday, afternoon tea, an-d a dance in the evening.

LYNDHURST.

THE’ WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting M the Lyndhurst Women’s Institute was held in the hall, the president (Mrs A. 'C. Gadd) presiding. Arrangements were made for the birthday party to be held on August 7. Mrs F. Scott offered t 0 make the birthday cake. Mr W. Hunt (Ashbul'ton) _ gave a. demonstration on the cutting of joints of mutton and beef. A . i ‘

The sales table was in charge of Miss Prebble. The hostesses were Mesdames J , H. McKendry, P. Prebble, R. Rule, and Miss Prebble. Anglican Guild Dance. A very enjoyable dance was held in the Lyndhurst Hall, under the auspices of the Lyndhurst Anglican Ladies’ Guild, to raise funds for St. Saviour’s Orphanage. A lucky spot waltz was won by Miss E. Reesby and Mr Markham, and a Monte Carlo waltz by Miss Joan Alexander and Mr G. Oldfield. The first couple on the floor 'was Miss Agnes Gray and Mr D, Withell. Music for the dancing was played by Cook’s orchestra, and extras were played by Mr Knox Cook. Mr A. 'C. Gadd was Master of Ceremonies.

HINDS. O'D‘DFELLOWS’ LODGE. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Himds Lodge, M.U.0.F., was held in the lod‘gel‘ooms, with the N.G. (Sister L. Dellow) presiding. Officers were installed. by the P.G. An invitation to‘ be present at the Methven Lodge’s annual ball was accepted. -It was reported that in the district ritual competition Hinds was awarded third place. . A motiom of sympathy with the relatives of the late Bro. A. Moore, who was aeoidentally drowned’ on the West Coast, was carried in silence.
