CHILD WELFARE.
Sir,—-I find on looking up the original copy of my draft letter that a mistake had been inadvertently made in copying. What was originally written and intended. for publication was “that I was amazed to see a-young girl escort—ed by a. child welfare officer followed by three stalwart policemen in uniform.” I was a casual and impartial observer and a person would have been very dense if they did not connect the party from the position where I saw them pass. If a mistake ‘had not been made in transcribing my letter, it would, not have been possible for the Sergeant to side-step the issue. The position discloses an unsatisfactory state of affairs. It was not with the object or desire to. discredit any person that I had _written the letter. In deal—ing with children the authorities should understand that crude prison methods will not be tolerated by enlightened people. S. ANDREW.
