l A double drowning accident oc~ lcurred on Saturday night in a. lagoon near Kahutara, involving the deaths of two prominent young South Wajrarapa. men, Hector Donald, of Featherston, aged 21, a. son of the late Mr Allan Donald, and Murdoch Mc— Leod, of Martinborough, aged 20, a son of the _Hon. A. D. McLeod. i

I It appears that after spending Sat‘urday afternoon duck shooting at the ‘lagoon, which is a backwater of Lake Wairarapa, the men left the other members of the party in the early evening to return home in a. boat. The first indication of a. fatality came yes—terday when a: settler at Kahutara found the boat and coats and flmts‘ washed up on the lakeside. The bodies were recovered this morning.

l Cars driven by Mr Leo Laffey, of ‘Tinwald, and Mr Alfred Dunn, of 20 lHereford‘ Street, Christchurch, collided just before noon :yesterday at the cor—ner of Gloucester Street and Rolleston Avenue. The screen on one side of Mr Laffey’s car was broken and the flying glass struck Joan Lafiey, aged four, in the face. She suffered fairly severe cuts and was admitted to the public hospital. Mrs Lafiey and three other children were in the car, but escaped without injury. Mr Dunn was also injured. ; Both cars were considerably dam-l aged. l

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 14‘

Struck in the eye with an! arrow on Saturday, a. boy, aged six, was admit—ted to the New Plymouth Hospital ivith a severe injury. An operation was performed immediately, but whether the boy will lose the sight of the eye will not be known for a few days.

The boy was George Richmond, a son of Mr and Mrs B.- Richmond, of Wharehuieb near Stratford. The boy and his younger brother were playing with a. bow and arrows when the other boy accidentally released an arrow, which entered George’s eye. He was rushed to New Plymouth for Specialist treatment.

INFANT DROW‘NED IN RIVER.

INVERCARGILL, June 14‘

A drowning accident occurred at Gore to-day, when a child, aged. two and a half, fell into the Mataura River. The child was Murray Gordon, a son of Mr and Mrs A. V. Gordon. He was missing early this afternoon and when a search was made he was found in the river. The indications were that he had not been in the water very long, but artificial respiration was unsuccessful. ‘ RUN OVE-Rl BY GRUBJBER. While working a team on the farm of Mr Cook, near Rakaia, on Saturday, Mr Samuel J. McKnight, a. teamster of Rakaia, was run over by a, grubber when his horses bolted. He received a fractured pelvis and was taken to the Ashburton Public Hospital. His condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory. INJURY T 0 FOOTBALLER. George Burgess, of Springburn, a junior grade footballer, received a kick on his face while playing in a match on Saturday, and was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital suffering from a broken cheekbone.’ His cendir tion was reported to be satisfactory last evening. MAN KILLED INSTANTLY. OAMARU, This Day. While working for the Public Wei-ks Department at excavation on the main Highways this morning for the subway at Deborah level crossing, Mr Robert Alfred Warrington was crushed by a fall of earth. _Death was practically instantaneous. (Deceased, who was aged 36, was a married man with three children. He resided at Weston.
