NOMINATION AT FIRST BALLOT. (United Press Association—Copyright.) NEW YORK, June 12. The nomination of Colonel Knox for the Vice‘Presideney at the Republican Convention at Cleveland (Ohio) was made to-day promptly after Mr Vandeenberg, who was Mr Landon’s choice for his running mate, addressed a letter to the Convention asking that his name be withdrawn. A dozen aspirants for the position were put to the nomination. by zealous friends, but while the stream of oratory continued, behind it the party leaders went about the business of choosing, between Mr Vandeenberg and Colonel Knox, the farmer’s relinquislnnent making possible the selection of the Chicago- publisher at the first ballot without a single dissenting vote. The Convention then adjourned sine die after a. telegram from Mr Landon was read: “Road would lead to victory in November.” '
