SEQUEL T 0 QUEBEC INQUIRY

GOVERNMENT FUNDS INVOLVED

As a sequel to the inquiry into Gov—ernment accounts, Mr Louis Ta‘scheyreau, Liberal Premier of Quebec for 15 years, has resigned, naming the Minister for Public 'Works (Mr Adelatd God—bout) as his successor. The Legislature has dissolved, with the election fixed for August 15.

The inquiry reVealed that the Premier’s brother, Antoine, accountant for the Government, deposited Government funds with his son, who was a bank manager. The son drew 3 per cent. interest on the moneys, ‘but returned to the Government only 1% per cent.

Mr C. Lanctot (Attorney-General) resigned when the inquiry heard hints that he was too friendly with men convicted as swindlers.
