HOLIDAY TRAFFIC
RAILWAY BOOKINGS DECREASE. THE RETURNS FOR ASHBURTON. SUNDAY THE BUSIEST DAY. A slight decrease in the railway traffic for the Easter holidays this year is shown in the bookings at Ashburton. There was a decrease in traffic on Thursday and Friday, while only one increase was recorded on Saturday, but the figures for Sunday and! yesterday show a good increase. Sunday was easily the busiest day for traffic, over 100 mere people travelling than on any other day. Altogether 1028 people left Ashburton by train, a decrease of 13 on the total last year. The following figures for previous years indicate the growth of Easter rail traffic: —l934, 1027 ; 1933, 611; 1932, 634; 1931, 731.
