GOVERNMENT IN GERMANY. “CLOSELY TIED TO PEOPLE.” DR, GOEBBEL CLAIMS SUCCESS. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Recived This Day, 12.10 p.m.) BERLIN, March 10. The Minister for Propaganda (Dr. Goebbels), opening the election campaign, said: “AA 7 estern democracies would do well to copy our example, for no Government is so closely tied to the people as Germany’s. In parliamentary countries Governments tell the people what they are going to do. AYe tell them what we have dope. AVho dares to say we have not attained our aims in destroying Marxism and parliamentarianism, and breaking the power of the Jews, restoring honesty in the theatre, Press and art, solving unemployment, breaking the chains other nations laid around us?” Dr. Goebbels admitted that employment schemes were costly, but no expense was too high when the people’s bread was at stake. The Government is conducting a vigorous electioneering programme, though Nazis are the only - candidates. BIGGER RHINELAND FORCES. INTENTION OF GERMANY. (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) •BERLIN, March 10. A message from Cologne states that the Government is planning an increase in the forces in the Rhineland. Special billeting offices have been established, ar.d citizens have been requested to state how many soldiers they are prepared to accommodate. INTEGRITY OF AUSTRIA. THE INTERESTS OF 'BRITAIN LONDON, March 9. In the House of Commons Sir Austen Chamberlain asked Mr Eden whether ‘ the German proposals were confined to the east and west frontiers or whether the Government will undertake to consider Britain’s interest in maintaining the independence of integrity of Austria, iMr Eden replied that Germany’s offer was limited to her eastern neighbours. He would answer the second part of the question in the affirmative Mr Eden then hurried from the House and later left for Paris.
