THE WEATHER.
WARM, MILD CONDITIONS TO-DAY Warm conditions prevailed in Ashburton this morning, after a mild day yesterday. A few drops of rain fell when the wind changed to the south last evening, but the change did not last long. The sky was fairly cloudy this morning, but the sun shone brightly at times, while a light northerly breeze was blowing. The wind became stronger in the afternoon. The maximum temperature yesterday was 64 degrees, and the minimum last night 46 degrees Barometric pressure at 9 o’clock this morning was 29.46 inches, compared with 29.53 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day. issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: Pressure is high to the north, but an intense westerly depression is crossing the South Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru as follows: — Moderate to strong north-westerly to westerly winds, reaching gale force at places, later backing in places to south-westerly. Weather mainly fair, but showers likely in the ranges. Seas rough offshore.
