(From Our Own Correspondents.) FAIRTON. The Fairton "Women’s Institute has held its annual meeting, Mrs "W. P. Anderson presiding over a full attendance. Three new members were elected. Mrs Oram and Mrs Anderson were elected delegates to the annual federation meeting to be held in Ashburton on April 3. Members decided to continue the drama circle. Prizes for most points in competitions during the year were presented to Miss Olive Evans (handwork), Mrs W. P. Anderson for flowers, and to Mrs A. McCall and Mrs J. Willis (equal) for cooking. The election of officers resulted: —President, Mrs W. P. Anderson; vice-presidents, Mrs H. Thompson and Mrs J. T. Oram; secretary, Mrs H. Slade: treasurer, Mrs A- McCall; committee, Mrs H. Chappell, Mrs G. Dunphy, Mrs C. Chambers, Mrs L. Taylor, Mrs J. Ward, and Mrs G. Nutbrown. Competition winners were:—Cup and saucer, Mrs McCall 1, Mrs Oram 2, Mrs Nutbrown 3; ladies’ spray, Mrs McCall 1, Mrs Evans 2, Mrs Phillips 3; asters, Mrs Evans 1, Mrs Slade 2, Mrs Phillips 3; Elsies fingers, Mrs Evans 1, Mrs Willis 2, Mrs McCall 3; apple jelly, Mrs Chappell 1, Mrs McCall 2, Mrs Slade 3; d’oyley, Miss 0. The annual meeting of the Lyndh.urst Women’s Institute was held in the hall recently, when the president (Mrs A. C. Gadd) occupied the chair. One new: member was welcomed. The report showed that the branch had had a successful,year. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £7 12s 7d. A letter was received from the Lyndhurst School Committee thanking the members for the gift to the school prize fund. Mrs S. H. Alexander, Mrs Alexander and Miss Collett judged the competitions, with the following results: — Jar of flowers: Miss Prebble 1, Mrs iP. Ptebble 2, Mrs Limbrick 3. Three kinds of jam: Mrs Symes 1, Mrs Limbrick 2, Mrs Scott 3. The election of .officers resulted: President, Mrs A. C. Gadd; vice-presidents, Mesdames P. Prebble, Scott and Limbrick ; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Symes; committee, Mesdames Alexander, S. H. Anderson, It. H. Brawley, Cook, Role, Misses Collett, Prebble, Drummond and Evans. The hostesses were Miss Collett and Miss D. Drummond. The Lauristcn School cricket team and rounder team visited Lyndhurst to play Lyndhurst School teams. The cricket match was won by Lauriston by seven runs. The highest scores were made by Maxwell Fyfe (Lauriston) and Keith Shearer and Eddie Body for Lyndhurst. The rounder match was won by the Lyndhurst girls. * A very pleasant day was spent by the parents and children of the Lyndhurst School at the annual picnic, which was held at Caroline Bay, Timaru. A special excursion train was engaged, for the journey. Children enjoyed the sea-bathing and games on the beach. The committee had made good arrangements. PENDARVES. i , Because of unfavourable weather there was not a large attendance at the annual harvest thanksgiving service, conducted in the Presbyterian Church by the Rev. D. B. Ashford (Rakaia)/ However, goods were sent in, which were later packed and sent to the orphanage in Christchurch. Miss Ethel Malcolm was organist. LAURISTON. The meteorological records for February in the Lauristcn district ace as follow: Mean barometer, 29.48 inches; mean temperature, 64.9 degrees; total rainfall, 7 inches.
