PERSONAL.
Mr G. T. Russell, who has been on holiday at Hanmer Springs, returned tci Ashburton yesterday. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) and the Town Clerk (Mr W. Patterson) returned to Ashburton yesterday after attending the annual conference of the Municipal Association of New Zealand at Napier. The by-election for the mayoralty cf St. Kilda, made necessary by the death of Mr H. H. Leary, was held yesterday, resulting in the return of Mr J. J. Marlow. The voting was:—J. J. Marlow 814, J. Robinson 537, E. Longworth 271.
