{From Our Own Correspondents.) MAYFIELD The annual meeting of the Mayfield Collie Dog Club was held in the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s rooms, Mr D. Duff presiding. The annual report and balance-sheet showed a small credit balance. Mr A. N. Grigg was congratulated on winning the Todmore Cup, which was competed for at last Mayfield and Methven trials. It was decided to hold the next trials on May 18, 19, and 20. The following officers were elected :—Patron, Mr A: N. Grigg; president, Mr D, Mclntosh; vice-president, Mr J. H. Patterson; secretary, Mr J. D. Murdoch. The old committee was re-elected with Mr D. Duff as chairman. The first meeting of the year of the St. Mary’s Anglican Guild was held in the church on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs J. J. Mulligan presiding. Mr It Carson, the new curate, opened the meeting with prayer, and a talk on Indian children and the work of the missionaries. It was decided to hold the harvest thanksgiving service iu Mayfield on the evening of Marcn 22. The proposed bazaar was discussed and it was d« eided to hold it on April 18 in the Mount Somers Hall. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division was held on Thursday afternoon in the Agricultural,and (Pastoral Association’s rooms. Mrs J. !D. Murdoch presided over a good attendance. Two new members were welcomed,. In the absence of the secretary, Miss Howden read a report of the recent conference at Hamilton. The report on the housekeeping scheme was especially interesting. It was decided to hold the annual meeting next month, and to invite the district president and members of the Anama branch. It was also decided to ask for the catering at the dog,trials in May. The roll-call, “Washing Day Hints,” was well responded to. Miss Howden read extracts from tfie book “Cry Havoc,” by Beverley Nicholls. Mrs G. There was a fair attendance at the .monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held in the Rifle Club’s rooms. Mrs R. J. Martin presided. Mr Warriner gave an interesting demonstration on growing bulbs in fibre. Judges for the competitions were Mesdames Johnson, Bennison, Bruce and Mr Warriher. The monthly meeting of the South Rakaia Road Board was held cn Thursday, those present being Messrs H. A. Harrison (chairman), A. Doig, J. C. Irwin, Jas. Lambie and W. W. Carruthers. The.chairman referred to the loss to the Empire of his late Majesty King George V., and also to the loss to the district in the death of Messrs W. Letham and G. S. Hardy. Mr Harrison welcomed to the meeting Mr J. C, Irwin, who had been elected in the place of Mr Letham. The Minister of Labour advised that Saturday had been declared the half-day for Rakaia. The balance-sheet was received from the Audit Office certified as correct. Notification was received of alteration in the valuation of one property, and three transfers of property were approved. It was decided that the 10 per cent, penalty he added to all rates unpaid after next Saturday. It was agreed to have the board’s plant overhauled to enable an early start to he made with the work. The Rakaia Horticultural Society’s autumn show attracted good entries for the children’s bouquet-making, which resulted as follows: —School girls: Mavis Clark 1, June Shannon 2Girls under 12 years: Doreen Pluck 1, Audrie Shannon 2. Boys, 12 and under 16 years: Hue Cromie 1, Leslie Stevenson 2. The judges were Mrs Nicol and Mrs Coatsworth. MOUNT SOMERS. Those present at the monthly meeting of the Mount Somers School Committee were Messrs L. King, R. McCallum and J. T. Bull. The headmistress (Miss J. Stevenson) reported a roll of 58. It was decided to hold a dance in aid of the picnic funds on Saturday, March 28. It was agreed to hold an excursion to Timaru at an early date. Representatives from all parts cr the parish met at Mount Somers on Thursday evening, when arrangements were made to hold the animal produce show and sale of work on Saturday, April 18. Mr A. N. Grigg presided. For the purpose of arranging transport and making a systematic canvass, it .
