TOLSTOY RELIC
DISCOVERY IN MOSCOW. The long-lost manuscript of "The Eagle," the first work written by Count Leo Tolstoy, the great Russian philosopher and writer, has been discovered in Moscow. Together with many other priceless relics of the writer, it has been found hidden away in four hitherto unopened boxes in the All-Union Lenin Library there. Other finds include a notebook with notes for the novel "Peter the First," a diary for 1915, and 475 galley proofs of the novel "Resurrection," with corrections in Tolstoy's hand. These relics, together with some 1000 letters written by Tolstoy, have been arranged in a special exhibition in honour of the 25th anniversary of Tolstoy's death. Some 35,000 letters written to Tolstoy by admirers are also on view, together with copies of all his books.
