OPIUM SEIZED.
RAID ON; MELBOURNE HOUSES. (United Press Association—Copyright.) MELBOURNE This Day. Opium valued at £IOOO, elaborate paraphernalia for the cooking and smoking and a quantity of silk wearing apparel, were seized by Customs officials in a raid on two city houses. An arrest was made. It is understood that the premises were in an area occupied largely by foreigners. In all,, 149 tins of opium were discovered. The Minister of Customs (Mr T. White), who remarked that addiction to opium in Australia was lessening, said that to-day's was the most important coup for some time.
