Facts have now been revealed regarding the statement by Admiral ot the Fleet Sir Roger Keyes that Italian submarines operated near Malta The- British authorities learned that Italian underwater craft were '-exercising" in considerable strength around Malta, upon which the Britisn Navy also decided to "exercise," laying down a practice barrage of comparatively harmless explosives outside Valetta. An Italian submarine hastily came to the surface, the commander protesting. It was politely pointed,out that ho was in waters in which the British Navy was accustomed to exercise. The commander surprisingly exclaimed : "But lam off Tripoli."
