MINISTER’S VISIT

DEPUTATIONS TO MR SEMPLE. TO DISCUSS DRAINAGE SCHEME. CURTAILED ITINERARY TO-MORROW. As lie lias to attend an urgent meeting of Cabinet on Friday, tho visit of the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) to Ashburton to-mor-row lias been considerably curtailed, and he Avill spend an hour here, instead of several hours as had been arranged previously. The Minister is the first of the new Government representatives to A'isit Ashburton. He will arrive from Christchurch at 10 a.m., and at 10.10 a.m. he will receive the Mayor (Mr W. H. Woods) and the engineer (Mr W. H. Stevens) as a deputation from the Borough Council to discuss the Hampstead drainage proposals. At 10.30 a.m. lie will meet the County Chairman (Mr D. J. Morrow) and the County Clerk (Mr G. Kelly) to discuss the County irrigation scheme. Morning tea will lie partaken of at 10.45 a.m., and after that the Minister Avill meet the chairman of the Ashburton Electric Power Board (Mr E. F. Nicoll) and the Engineer-Secretary (Mr H. G. Kemp), and if time permits he Avill discuss hospital affairs Avith the chairman of the board (Mr W. G. Gallagher). The Minister is scheduled to leave Ashburton at 11 a.m. and to attend a meeting of farmers in Timaru at 1.30 p.m. to discuss irrigation questions. He intends to leaA'e Timaru at 3 p.m’. on his Avay back to Christchurch and Wellington.
