THE POSITION OF BRITAIN (United Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, February 10. In tho House of Commons, Mr W. Elliot (Minister for Agriculture) moved the second reading of the Sugar Industry Reorganisation Bill. After stating that Great Britain now represented one-third of tlio world’s sugar market, Mr Elliot said that the country was becoming almost tho entire world market for some products. Great Britain’s share of tho imports of tho world’s exports had risen, since 1925, as follows: Wheat, 27 to 40 per cent; butter, GG to 82 per cent; beef and veal, 64 to 82 per cent. “We must seek a new technique to deal with the absorption of tho world’s surplus/’ said Mr Elliot.

Mr Tom Williams, in moving a Labour amendment objecting to tile perpetuation of the sugar beet subsidy, said that the Treasury had already for feited £50,000,000 for this purpose.
