SATIRE ON MACHINE ACE. United Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, February 5. Charlie Chaplin’s first film for five years, “Modern Times,” was given its world premiere here to-night. In many respects it is Iris most ambitious film. It is a social satire, of which the machine ago is the object. The best moments, however, consist, of the old familiar tricks: there is very little dialogue, although Chaplin breaks the rule and sings a song, the words of which, however, are gibberish. Ho composed the music and wrote, produced and directed the film which was well received by the critics.
