COUNTY COUNCIL’S SORROW. . : u ;’•' : : a{ ; In connection with the death of King George V., the following resolution was carried by the Ashburton County Council : “That this Council, on behalf of the residents of Ashburton County, expresses its profound sorrow at the death of his Majesty King George V., and mourns with the Royal Family in its great bereavement. By his death the Empire as a, whole has sustained an irreparable loss, but his life of righteousness, high principle, and poble example will be an incentive to his people now and in the years to come.”

A MESSAGE ACKNOWLEDGED. Advice has been received bv the secretary of the Mid-Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes (Mrs 11. J. Constable) that a message cf sympathy pom the. Dominion Federation cf Women’s Institutes has been cabled to Queen Mary, who is a member of the Sandringham Women’s Institute. As camp mother at Staveley Children’s Health Camp, Mrs Constable has received the following reply to a message sent to the Governor-General (Viscount Galway) from the children:— “I am desired by the GovernorGeneral, as Iris Majesty’s representative in New Zealand, to express his deep appreciation of the loyal message of sympathy sent by you for the children of the Staveley health camp regarding the death of King George VHis Excellency wishes me to add that he is arranging for the text of your message to be communicated to his Majesty thfe King. Yours faithfully (signed), D. E. Fouhy, Acting-Official Secretary.” x
