BUREAU OF INDUSTRY.
DEVELOPMENT OF DOMINION. CO-ORDINATING STATE ACTIVITIES. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, February 5. The establishment of a Bureau of Industry, a permanent body to assist tho Government to examine every possible avenue of organised development and to ensure collaboration in all sections of the State’s activities for the development of the Dominion, was announced to-day in an interview by the Hon. H. T. Armstrong (Minister for Employment). The Bureau of Industry will consist of administrative efficers and experts at present in the State’s employ, and who are associated with all phases of national development. An industries development hoard will function as part of the Bureau of Industry. “For all purposes of securing a complete liaison with the Cabinet,” said the Minister, “the functions of this section of the administration will be carried out under the guidance and direction of a special committee of Cabinet Ministers, consisting of cue Ministers of Finance, Industries and Commerce and Labour. The most important duties will be to organise and survey the necessary procedure for :he expansion_.of industrial development in every direction and to examine and report on all the projects that vra formulated, with the hope of assistance from the Government. The step does not involve any increase in administrative cost.”
The Minister said that in addition it was intended to utilise the advantages of the proposed bureau through expert sub-committees for helpful consultative' contact with representatives of labour andi industry, and for examining any proposals submitted to it. These proposals do not require any legislative enactments, as full statutory provision already exists.
