TRAMS COLLIDE
COLLAPSE OF A MOTORMAN. ACCIDENT IN WELLINGTON. j (Per Press Association.) | WELLINGTON, January 20. Owing to the motorman collapsing in Hataitai tunnel yesterday morning, his tram collided with the rear of the preceding tram, but no one was injured, and only slight damage to the tramcars resulted. The conductor could have stopped the runaway tram from the rear platform, but he was not aware of the motorman’s sudden illness, and seeing the motorman’s liat fall on the road, he had left the car to get it. By the time he had reached the cap the car was well into the tunnel and he was unable to reach it in time to prevent a collision. There were no .signs of panic among the passengers. I The motorman said later that he j thought his collapse was due to ptomaine poisoning. An investigation is to he held. .
