SEAMEN’S STRIKE CONFERENCE.

TROUBLE OVER SECRETARYSHIP

Seamen at a meeting to-day decided ■not to recognise Air Jacob Johnson as Federal secretary of the Seamen’s [Union.

] ’When Air Johnson and; Mr Caseyi (tho Queensland secretary) attempted to enter the Trades Hall to attend the conference called by the Australian Council of Trades Unions, they were I met by a large picket of seamen, who jeered and abused them, and forcibly prevented their entering tho building. The conference decided that neither Air Keenan nor Mr Johnson would be recognised as general secretary until the general president (Mr Clarke) gave a ruling. It was also decided not to admit Air Johnson to further conferences of the unions.

Air Clarke, who did not attend the conference, said Air Keenan was not elected according to the rules.
