BOWLING NOTES.

THE ASHBURTON CLUB. FIXTURES AND ACTIVITIES. Owing to the holidays and the Dominion tournament in Christchurch, the Ashburton Bowling Club competitions have been practically at a standstill. Several matches will be played this week and an endeavour will be made to bring the various competitions up to date. Last week Minoguc beat W. R. Lane Hast season's champion) in the second round, second life, of the champion singles. . In the colts' singles, McCrostic beat Wilson and Thomas beat Taylor. The final of this competition should be fought out between McCrostic and Thomas. The former is a new player this season and gives promise of developing into a good bowler. A most enjoyable game was played between six rinks from the Shirley ('Christchurch) Club and Ashburton Club on Saturday. A seventh rink was to have played, but owing to motor troubles it did not reach Ashburton until the game was well in progress. The green presented a very animated appearance, every rink being in use. The visitors, - although they were not successful, thoroughly enjoyed the play. It is some live or six years since Shirley visited Ashburton. A return game will be played at Shirley on Februarv 8.

These friendly games do much to cement the good-fellowship which - is such a feature of the game of bowls.
