Howard Hughes holder of the World's speed record for land aeroplanes, broke the trans*-€ontinental record to-day, when he flew a Northrop monoplane from Los Angeles to New York in a non-stop flight in Ohrs 27mins Msec, which is 35min 41sec under Captain Eoscoe Turner's previous record in 1934.
By using an oxygen tank, the pilot maintained! an altitude of 18,000 ft most of the time, and averaged 260 miles an hour for approximately 2450 miles. At times the machine reached a speed of 295 miles an hour.
