He appealed to the Dunedin District Committee, but his appeal was. dismissed. He then took it to the Racing Conference. Ellis will now be able to ride at Wellington next week. UNPROFITABLE TRIP. K. VOITRE AT ADELAIDE. Keith Voitre was a disappointed man when he loft Adelaide to return to Melbourne on December 28 last. He had four mounts at the Port Adelaide Cup Meeting, but was unable to secure one placing. There were several rumours current in Adelaide that he had been paid big appearance money by the club, but there was no truth in this. He was brought over in the first place by C. H. Wood to ride his Port Cup candidate Mellion and other horses in his stable, but the (retainer was not divulged. Before the Cup was aim Voitre was engaged to ride Folios Bergore in the Oaklands Plate, and it is understood there was some difference of opinion as to whether Voitre was permitted to take any mounts before Mellion ran in the Cup. However, he was legged up on Folios Bergcre, but this filly failed to get into the placings.

Voitre rode an admirable iace in the Cup on Mellion, who had always been one of the favourites following the announcement that Voitre would have the mount. He had the gelding in fifth place right up to the turn, but Mellion lacked brilliance in the straight and finished fifth. Voitre's mount Lemonia in the Welter was made favourite, but she was left several lengths, and hard riding failed to make "any impression. His

last rido was Snapdragon in tho Highweight—again without success. Voitro with his usual thoroughness had an early ride round the course, but any tips ho was abketo pick up were of no avail.
