Messrs W. Bryant, J. Bryant, H. C. McDonald, and T. Purcell, of Ashburton, left to-day on a touring trip to Picton and the West Coast.
Mr J. D. H. Buchanan, of Timaru, has been appointed headmaster of the Hereworth Preparatory School, Havelock North, Hawke's Bay. Educated at Christ's College and Pembroke College, Cambridge, Mr Buchanan is an M.A. (Cantab.) and B.Sc. (N.Z.).
Mr Edgar Bainton (director of the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music), who is at present in the South Island, is to deliver a series of lectures nt university colleges in Neiv Zealand on musical subjects. These will take the form of summer classes for music teachers, and have been arranged by the New Zealand Music Teachers' Association.
Advice that he has been awarded the honourable mention diploma of the Societe des Artistes Francais for his picture "Thoughts of a Tohunga," which was exhibited at the Salon last year, has been received by the Auckland artist, Mr C. F. .Coldie (says a Press Association telegram). This honour makes Mr Goldie eligible to qualify for three medals of the salon, leading to one of the highest awards obtainable by artists. Mr Goldie is sending two pictures to the salon this year.
