The dividend will be payable on Febnnrv l^y The dividend is at the same rate as paid in February last year.

THE SHARE MARKET. The following sales were made on the Cbristchurch Stock Exchange yesterday''~'LlSTED STOCKS.

DUNEDIN WOOL SALE. COMPARISON OF REALISATIONS. DUNEDIN, January 14. The total realisation at the first wool sale of the season in Dunedin reached the sum of £395,020 for a clearance of 28,269 bales, >as against £168,017 in December of 1934. when 15,799 bales were sold at auction. An analysis of the figures shows the great improvement in the wool market and the happier position of growers.

The average price was 10.17 d a pound, compared with 7.94 d in the previous December, while the average for almost a double entry was £l6 19s 6d a bale, as against £lO 12s Bd. The prices are all the more heartening to the whole of Otago when a comparison is made with the values realised over the whole of the 1934-35 season. The averages for the last season were 7.59 d a pound, and £lO 10s 6d a bale. During the series of sales in 1934-35 a total of 75,018 bales was sold in Otago, 6706 being purchased by Tocal mills, the sum realised for the season being £789,530. An amount equal to just over half of last season's gross proceeds lias been distributed from the first sale for 1935-36, and with the continued demand, which is world-wide for fine wools, an even greater distribution should be made after the next sale here on February 5. A full catalogue of 30,000 bales has

been filled since the first sale was held, and a great percentage of the offering will be of back-country clips, which a large proportion of fine wools; in fact, there is sufficient wool in Dunedin to fill the March catalogue. The wool has been literally "rolling" into the stores. From December 15 until a week ago about 2000 bales arrived in Dunedin daily by rail, in addition to loads carried by lorries.

SYDNEY WOOL SALES. GOOD GENERAL COMPETITION. 'SYDNEY, January 14. At the wool sales 11,283 bales were offered, 10,593 were sold, and 1718 bales were disposed of privately. There was good general competition, prices being .firm at yesterday's rates for all descriptions. Greasv merino made up to 26id per" lb. BRADFORD WOOL MARKET. FIRM FOR ALL QUALITIES. LONDON, January 12. Bradford quotations for wool of all qualities are firm at late rates. Topmakers are reluctant to sell, and some are not quoting until the London sales begin. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. the Auckland market. AUCKLAND, January 14. The potato market is fairly steady, quotations being 3s 9d to 4s a sugarbag, or £7 10s a ton, on rail, Pukekohe. The wet weather is interfering with the marketing of Pukte/kohe onions, which are quoted at 4s a sugar-bag, or £7 10s a ton on rail, Pukekohe. Maizo is still very dear, and although Dominion supplies have been supplemented by a small shipment of crushed maize from South Africa, via Sydney, prices continue high. A further transhipment is due in about a week's time, and this will include both whole and crushed grain. For all of this the price is quoted at about 6s 7d a bushel, but a line of South African, due to arrive in March, will sell cheaper—namely, at 6s 3d, through store, or 6s ex the wharf, in ton lots. Supplies of pollard are still scarce, and the difficulty has been increased by the advancing prices in Australia. Merchants havo accordingly raised their quotations to £8 a ton. WHEAT PRICES IN BRITAIN. LONDON, January 13. Wheat cargoes are easier. Parcels are quiet. Futures are quoted: London, March 31s 7d per quarter July 31s 2d; Liverpool, March 6s 6|d .per cental, May 6s 3|d, July 6s 3£d-
