NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. RINKS POST-SECTION PLAY. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. After rain last night the weather was dull and threatening this moaning, when post-sectional play in the New Zealand Bowling Association's rinks championship was started. The greens were a trifle on the dead, side, hut were drawing well. Thirty-seven rinks qualified for post-sectional play. The final stages of the pairs and singles were also in progress. It is not expected that any finals will be reached to-day. Toward neon further heavy rain fell. The rinks play was carried on under the life system, -all teams starting off with two lives. The pairs were played on the suddendeath principle. Of the New South Wales players none survived in the rinks, and only one combination has survived to contest the finals of the pairs. Whether the singles can be brought to a close within the next day or two depends on how the players become available. A number of finalists in both pairs and singles are among the rinks finalists. A closely fought pairs game was between the'New South Wales rink', skipped by Morris, and Dunedin (Hutchison), in which the Australians just managed to get home by one point, to win. 21—20. Morris started much better than Hutchison, and at the eleventh head had a lead of seven. Hutchison then won three successive heads. With two to play, the Dunedin pair had a lead of five. In a thrilling finish, the Australians made up the leeway, and put on an extra point to win. Anderson's Dunedin rink beat the Returned Soldiers' Association, Christchurch, rink, skipped by Young. 21— 15. The game started evenly, the score being five all the fifth head. Anderson drew ahead, and at the end of another six heads was up thirteen. Young had a turn, bringing his score to fourteen, while Anderson's was sixteen. Anderson then drew ahead again to win.

The match between the St. Albans pair, skipped by Brass, and the Lyall Bay pair, skipped by J. Conder, was won by the former by 19 points to 18. It was a hard-fought match, won on the last head. Brass was in front most of the time, and was six up with six heads to go. However, Conder pulled up, and two on the last head gave Brass a one-point win. The surprise of the morning was the defeat of the Auckland rink, who went down by one point margin to Brighting (Hataitai), who has been playing exceptionally well throughout the tournament.
