A Charlottetown message states that Mr "Walter Lea (Provincial Premier oi Prince Edward Island) died from pneumonia following a long period of illhealth. MR JOHN GILBERT. HOLLYWOOD, January 9. Mr John Gilbert, the film star, died of a heart attack at his home at Hollywood to-day. He was 38 years of age. He had been married /our times. DR. R. G. CANTI.

LONDON, January 9. The death has occurred, at the age of 52, of Dr. R. G. Canti, who did notable pioneer work in making films foi scientific and medical research. With apparatus of his own construction, based on that used in microscopic photography, and slow-motion films, he obtained visible records of the progress of living cells under conditions of disease.

One of Dr. Canti's films, showing the reactions of cancerous growths to radium rays, was shown to a distinguished lay audience at No. 10 Downing Street some time ago while Mr MacDonald was Prime Minister. Tributes to the value and promise of Dr. Canti's work were paid to-day by medical colleagues, including Lord Horder. Dr. Canti also took a leading part in inspiring and organising the British Red Cross blood r transfusions, service, which now includes more than 2000 volunteers. -
