VIOLENT PRISONER.
THEFT FROM BENEFACTOR, TO SERVE SIX MONTHS’. (Per Press Association). WELLING’fbN, This Day. A sentence of six months’ was imposed by Mr La wry, S.M., on Henry Barrett, aged 47, a butcher and labourer, for theft. Barrett had several free meals at the men’s shelter conducted by the Rev. Fielden Taylor, and yesterday entered Mr Taylor’s private quarters and stole an attache ease containing money and goods valued at £4 9s 6d. He has had many previous conivictions, besides which he violently resisted Constable Downes while being taken to the Mount Cook Police Station, the constable being forced to wait till the arrival of a sergeant, after which Barrett was handcuffed.
