JEWISH REFUGEES

TRAINING AND SETTLEMENT. PALESTINE CANNOT ABSORB THEM. A MISSION TO AMERICA. (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8. The “Guardian” says that an important mission, headed by Sir Herbert and Lord Bearstead, is going to New York on January 15 to discuss means of .settling Jewish refugees from Germany. No definite scheme bas been formulated, and the discussions will be largely exploratory. The mission will consider proposals to raise a large fund to train and settle Jews in other places than Palestine, which is unable to absorb the great waves of migrants. LIKE RATS IN A TRAP. THE JEWS IN GERMANY. (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8. “The Times” correspondent at Berlin points out that there is little hope of doing anything for the Jews through international pressure, as the Government, if not completely indifferent to foreign opinion, is at least unable to check the wilder elements desiring to squeeze’ the Jews from German life. The problem is how to get them out of Germany as fast as the Nazis are depriving them of a means of livelihood. The majority appear do be caught like rats in a trap.
