CROQUET.
SOUTH ISLAND TOURNEY. FURTHER STAGE YESTERDAY. The South Island championship croquet tournament Avas advanced a further stage yesterday in fine weather. With simultaneous play on the \\ est End and Acrangi greens elimination games in the handicap events AA'ere got off expeditiously, and already -the finalists in the Avomen’s handicap doubles have been found. During the day a high standard of play Avas maintained, a feature of the games being close finishes. Results of the games in which Ashburton took part are as folloAV, with Ashburton names first:— Women’s Championship. First life: Mrs Cleary heat Miss Perrin, 26-21. Handicap Singles. Mrs H. Thompson heat Mrs Patchett, 26-22 • Mrs McEachen lost to Mrs Hunt, 10-26.’ Handicap Doubles. Semi-finals: J. Thompson and Mrs Thompson lost to Mesdames Corbett and Halstead.
