RAILWAY CARRIAGE INCIDENT. Charges of behaving in a violent and offensive manner in a railway carriage on the south express on Tuesday, were brought against Sydney Arthur Stringer, alias Pat Ryan, a labourer, aged 34. Stringer was fined £3, in default 14 days imprisonment with hard labour, by Messrs G. Kelly and W. Patterson, Justices of the Peace, m the Ashburton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Accused, who was arrested by Constable W. Coatsworth at Rakaia on Tuesday, was said to have caused annoyance to the ticket collector, Mr D. Rouse, and passengers.
